His main research interest is inquiry-based science education, with a particular focus on its uptake in South African classrooms. He has published in top-tier journals such as International Journal of Science Education, Research in Science Education, Journal of Research in Science Teaching, Chemistry Education Research and Practice, and Teaching and Teacher Education. He is associate editor of Research in Science Education and has served on the editorial board of Journal of Research in Science Teaching. He is a B-rated scientist (NRF).\u003cbr\u003eDonnavan Kruger is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Education at the North-West University and a member of the Research Unit Self-directed Learning. His current research interests include how contextualised science education in an inquiry-based learning environment can enhance self-directed learning and how adaptive learning technology can aid in this setting.
