Schoolgirl detectives Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong are spending the holidays at Daisy's home, Fallingford. Daisy's glamorous mother is hosting a tea party for Daisy's birthday, with the whole family in attendance, from eccentric Aunt Saskia to the charming Uncle Felix. But it soon becomes clear that the celebration isn't really about Daisy at all. Naturally, Daisy is furious. Then one of the guests falls seriously, and mysteriously, ill – and everything points to poison.

With wild storms preventing anyone from leaving, or the police from arriving, Fallingford suddenly becomes a very dangerous place to be. No one is quite who they seem, and everyone has a secret or two. When someone very close to Daisy becomes a suspect, the Detective Society must uncover the truth – no matter the consequences.
