Resolute and mission-focused, Brigadier General Peter Sereko held command from platoon to brigade level. After joining the SADF in 1986, he specialised as a tracker before becoming an instructor. His skills as a soldier and leader were soon recognised in the new SANDF.

Sereko deployed in various capacities with the South African peacekeeping force to the DRC and played a key role in defeating rebel groups between 2005 and 2006. He also served as commandant of the SANDF Defence College and, before his retirement in 2024, commanded the SA Army's Light Modern Brigade, where he focused on neutralising illicit mining operations.
