Hell of a Country is a creative reimagining of a true crime story from early-1970s South Africa. The novel tells the story of teenager Lorraine van Niekerk who despises the fact that her boss and lover, middle-aged André Bekker, won't leave his wife Sunette and marry her instead. When Lorraine's life fatefully intersects that of Alfie Geemooi, a recent amputee, she comes up with a hell of a plan.
