sout+peper is based on the nostalgic food and travel blog of Neil Stemmet (www.soutenpeper.co.za). In the book, he tells stories and refers to recipes that have been repeated colloquially and have been passed on from grandmother to mother, daughter and child. Neil is passionate about the origin of heritage food's tradition; he writes the stories down the way he remembers them and the recipes as he received or heard them.
The book consists of a number of sketches, recipes (edited by Carmen Niehaus) and full-colour photos, occupying approximately 300 pages. In between the stories, advertisements of food products are published - plain and honest, like they used to be in daily papers and magazines of days gone by. Products that awaken nostalgic recollections will be photographed and the photos will be published right through the book.
