ST Mary Interactive English FAL Learners Book

S.M.I.L.E.'s key focus is the improvement in the quality of teaching and learning of English Home Language and English First Additional Language - as the core foundation for improved proficiency in all subjects of the GET and FET Phases of education (Grades 4 to 12 ).

S.M.I.L.E. was initiated in June 1991 in response to the urgent need to develop the English language skills of Grades 5 learners and improve the teaching skills of teachers. Twenty-nine years later, in 2020, the development of learners' English language skills and updating teachers' teaching skills still remain the most critical issues in education.
To achieve this objective, S.M.I.L.E.:
Provides hands on Teacher Training and Support in Primary and High Schools
Develops and distributes CAPS approved English First Additional Learning and Teaching Support Materials i.e. Learners Books, Readers and Teacher Guides
Develops and distributes CAPS aligned English Home Language Learning and Teaching Support Materials i.e. Learners Books and Teacher Guides
Conducts Skills Workshops for High school teachers on FET Literature, Essay Writing, Lesson Planning, and Comprehension strategies for learners
