Sentenced to Lockdown, 40 South African writers get together in a virtual Corona Collective, to pen The Lockdown Collection, trying to make sense of a panicked world, held hostage by a virus. Powerfully visceral, this historical gem includes a list of South Africa's most celebrated writers, thinkers, and disruptors, brilliantly capturing the emotional, the political, the spiritual, the humorous, and 'imagined' effects of a global pandemic.
'I jotted down a list of dream authors and decided to take my chances to see whether a few of them would agree to go on this crazy venture with me,' says maverick publisher, compiler Melinda Ferguson. Turns out all 40 of them did.
The Lockdown Collection, selected from the best of the two hit ebooks Lockdown and Lockdown Extended, launched during the first four weeks of lockdown, as well as a burst of new material, includes works by Sisonke Msimang, Lebo Mashile, Fred Khumalo, Richard Pithouse, Pumla Dineo Gqola, and Marianne Thamm.
